MCI Inc. became the latest telco to enter the cable arena, but not in the video-programming sector.
The company said Tuesday that it will expand its broadband portfolio to include high-speed cable-modem access, adding that with the new service and its existing business-class digital-subscriber-line product, it now reaches approximately 90% of U.S. business locations.
MCI is leveraging its relationship with New Edge Networks to provide asymmetric cable service from MSOs Charter Communications Inc., Cox Communications Inc. and Time Warner Cable.
The telco’s service offers speeds of 768 kilobits per second and higher upstream and 256 kbps and higher downstream. MCI will backs it with 24/7 technical service and support, as well as consolidated billing.
“With MCI's expanded broadband portfolio, businesses can turn to MCI for nationwide uniform service across access options, without the complexity of managing multiple solutions from different providers," MCI senior vice president of product management Nancy Gofus said in a prepared statement.
