A Maryland state appeals court has affirmed the right of Comcast Corp. to
charge $5 late fees to its customers in Baltimore.
The ruling is the latest skirmish in an eight-year battle over the correct
amount of penalty the operator may charge late-payers.
Previous system owners lost a class-action suit in the case and paid $12
million in judgments.
The court set the appropriate late fee at 50 cents. But then state law was
changed to specify $5 as the appropriate late fee and to include a retroactivity
An appeal is expected.
