Courtroom Television Network was part of a petition filed Thursday to try to
gain access to a very specific courtroom -- the one that will host the trial of
Washington, D.C., sniper suspect Lee Boyd Malvo.

Earlier this week, Fairfax County (Va.) Circuit Judge Jane Roush stuck by her
previously stated policy of barring cameras from the courtroom.

The Radio-Television News Directors Association, along with other
electronic-media outlets, also signed Thursday's petition, which asked Roush for
permission to pool equipment and personnel for pretrial and trial
proceedings.

"Television coverage played a crucial role in making the arrests for these
murders," Court TV chairman and CEO Henry Schleiff said in a prepared statement.
"It should play an equally crucial role in revealing how justice is carried
out."
