Discovery Communications officially named Meg Lowe SVP of domestic distribution, joining from MTV Networks to oversee sales and marketing for all U.S. services.
Reporting to Discovery Global Distribution president Bill Goodwyn, Lowe, who spent 15 years at Viacom-owned MTVN, starts Sept. 30, Discovery said.
"Meg is a remarkably talented executive, bringing to Discovery a stellar track record and outstanding reputation in the affiliate marketplace," Goodwyn, who since June has also been CEO of Discovery Education, said in a statement. "Meg will be a tremendous asset as we continue to work with our distribution partners to provide them opportunities to fully leverage the strength and quality of Discovery's brands."
Lowe will lead all sales and marketing efforts for Discovery's Domestic Distribution team, responsible for the distribution and strategic management of Discovery's portfolio of 13 networks with all U.S. distribution partners, the company said. She will oversee all activities and carriage negotiations for Discovery's suite of HD channels, all Discovery U.S. Hispanic networks and the company's joint venture services: the upcoming 3D network with Sony and IMAX and The Hub, in partnership with Hasbro.
Multichannel News reported her move on Monday, but Discovery at that time declined comment.
In July, Jennifer Dangar, an SVP in Goodwyn's distribution team, left Discovery to become EVP of distribution and business development at The Weather Channel Cos. Lowe essentially fills that role, Discovery said.
Lowe's move is the third recent departure of a senior member of MTVN's content distribution team. She had been SVP, content distribution and partner marketing, overseeing distribution for all MTV Networks and BET Networks for satellite, telcos and various cable operators with MTVN's 23 networks and related applications, according to a bio.
Earlier she held planning and buying positions at Backer Spielvogel Bates, Orion Pictures and Draft Worldwide.
In August, Lionsgate's TV Guide Network named Friday Abernethy executive VP of affiliate sales and marketing. She had been VP of national accounts/field operations for content distribution at MTVN, where she was first hired in 1998.
In May, Current Media named Courtney Menzel as EVP of distribution, heading up sales and marketing under CEO Mark Rosenthal, the former MTV executive. Menzel was senior vice president of content distribution and marketing at MTVN (where she worked for 14 years).
