Messier Resigns from NYSE Board

Embattled former Vivendi Universal chairman Jean-Marie Messier resigned from
the board of directors of the New York Stock Exchange, the NYSE announced
Friday.

Messier, who had been a member of the NYSE board since June 2001, resigned
Dec. 9 after the launch of his merchant bank, Messier Partners LLC.

"My new business does not fit in with the `classification' I had at the time
I joined," Messier said in a prepared statement, "so it is only fair for me to
give back my seat on the NYSE board."

Messier, under intense pressure from Vivendi's board and investors, left the
French media giant in July.
