MGM, Comcast Ink HD Movie Distribution Pact

MGM HD and Comcast Friday signed an affiliate agreement that will allow the cable operator to offer hundreds of  high-definition movies to its subscribers.

Comcast HD subscribers will be able to view both classic and contemporary films in the enhanced format on both its linear line-up as well as its video-on-demand service. Comcast owns a 20% stake in MGM.

“This is another step in growing the incredible opportunities that exist between MGM and Comcast and deepens our strategic relationship,” Jim Packer, co-President, Worldwide Television, MGM, said in a statement. “We are very excited to be able to offer MGM HD to Comcast’s HD customers and think that the channel will be a wonderful complement to the company’s HD initiatives.”

MGM HD claims it has the world’s largest modern film library, consisting of more than 4,100 films that have combined to earn 209 Academy Awards.
