MGM to Launch New Channel in Netherlands

Through an agreement with Liberty Global’s European-based content division, Chellomedia, MGM Networks will offer a new channel geared toward Dutch-speaking audiences in the Netherlands and Flemish-speaking Belgium.

Launching in September, the channel will feature selections from the MGM library with Dutch subtitles and on-air packaging targeted toward local markets. Feature films include Get Shorty, Manhattan, The Birdcage, West Side Story and Some Like It Hot.

The new channel will replace the English-language version of MGM Channel -- currently carried on all major cable systems in the Netherlands -- and extend its reach for the first time in Belgium.

MGM and Chellomedia also plan to offer an accompanying MGM-branded video-on-demand service.

“In just a few short years in the market, the number of MGM Channel subscribers and MSO clients have grown exponentially, and we are seeing what we believe is the early stages of a significant growth curve in digital penetration,” said Bruce Tuchman, executive vice president of MGM Networks. “Capitalizing on these growth opportunities, we are very enthusiastic about our future in the Netherlands and expect this new channel offering to mirror the success we've had with Chellomedia and Liberty Global in other European markets.”

Localized versions of MGM Channel are now available in roughly 120 countries and territories worldwide.
