Microsoft Corp. said it will integrate
SkyStream Networks'"zBand" content distribution software with the Microsoft TV Platform as part of an effort to stream "movie-quality" video to digital set-tops using "untapped" in-band channels. At present, cable operators typically use out-of-band Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) channels to deliver Internet data via cable modems. SkyStream said the zBand platform works in concert with networking equipment, such as its "Source Media Routers," which are typically housed at cable headends or hubs.
