MLB Network will examine the World Baseball Classic rosters on a special debuting Feb. 24.
The World Baseball Classic Tonight Roster Special, bowing Tuesday at 6 p.m. (ET), will announce the 2009 tournament's final rosters. The one-hour special will include interviews with special guests featuring participating players David Wright of the New York Mets, David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox and Magglio Ordoñez of the Detroit Tigers, as well as Buck Martinez, who managed Team USA in the inaugural World Baseball Classic in 2006. The 2009 World Baseball Classic is scheduled from March 5-23, with MLB Network slated to televise 16 of the contests. ESPN and ESPN2 will air the other 23 contests.
During the special, MLB Network on-air talent Victor Rojas, Barry Larkin, Harold Reynolds and special analyst, former Major League Baseball player Alex Gonzalez, will provide detailed information and commentary regarding the 2009 players, teams and brackets. Coverage will also include special footage of players and a recap of the inaugural World Baseball Classic in 2006
"We're looking forward to the start of the World Baseball Classic, and this roster special is exactly the type of in-depth coverage this global event deserves," said MLB Network president and CEO Tony Petitti in a statement. "Between the 16 games we'll show plus our nightly studio show, MLB Network will capture the excitement and cover the developments of the World Baseball Classic."
