A battle of sub-.500 squads generated ESPN's smallest audience with Monday Night Football in the 2010 season.

ESPN averaged a 7.2 national rating and 11.7 million viewers with its coverage of the San Diego Chargers evening their record at 5-5 with a 35-14 blowout of the now 3-7 Denver Broncos on Nov. 22, according to NIelsen data.

Thet was down 6% from a 7.7 rating and 3% in audience from the 7.7 and 12.1 million for last year's contest between the Tennessee Titans and the Houston Texans.

The Nov. 22 viewership slipped below the 11.89 million for the San Diego-Kansas City contest on Sept. 13, the second game of ESPN's opening weekend doublheader.

Things don't figure to get better next week as MNF presents an NFC West encounter between perhaps the most disappointing team in the NFL, (this side of the Dallas Cowboys), the 3-7 San Francisco 49ers,  against the Arizona Cardinals, a squad with the same record.
