ESPN Mobile, the division, has named its wireless-phone service, Mobile ESPN, which will officially launch Feb. 5.
Limited online availability will begin during the holiday period, ESPN said (www.mobileespn.com).
ESPN didn’t release pricing yet for the service, which will use Sprint Corp.’s wireless network.
The network will offer subscribers scores, headlines, player and team stats, video clips, game highlights, commentary, analysis, sports alerts, fantasy updates and “Gamecast,” a live graphical representation of games.
ESPN also announced that Sanyo North America Corp. will produce the first wireless handset for the service, which is designed to work on Sprint’s “EVDO (Evolution Data Optimized)” network.
