More than 9 million viewers tuned in Friday to bid farewell to detective Adrian Monk.
USA Network's Dec. 4 finale of its Emmy Award-winning drama series Monk drew 9.4 million viewers, the biggest audience ever for a USA network series and the most viewers ever for a cable drama series, besting the 9.2 million viewers garnered by a Sept. 10, 2007 episode of TNT's The Closer.
An Aug. 17, 2007 episode of Disney Channel's Hannah Montana holds the overall cable original series episode record, drawing 10.7 million viewers.
Monk, starring Tony Shalhoub as the obsessive-compulsive detective, finished its eight-season run with its most watched episode ever - in fact, no Monk episode ever drew more than 7 million viewers. The finale, in which Monk finally learns who killed his wife Trudy, also delivered series highs among viewers 18-49 (3.2 million) and 25 to 54 (3.7 million), and easily topped everything on broadcast for the night in P2+, P18-49 and P25-54 based on fast nationals for the broadcast networks, according to USA Network.
