Motorola announced Wednesday that it completed the acquisition of Netopia, a maker of digital-subscriber-line home gateways, for $208 million in cash.
The deal, announced Nov. 14, gives Motorola a new portfolio of DSL-based networking gear to pitch to telephone companies. Netopia makes broadband customer-premises equipment for DSL networks, with products that include wired and wireless modems, routers and gateways.
Motorola will maintain Netopia as a wholly owned subsidiary based in Emeryville, Calif., and the unit will serve as the new headquarters of Motorola’s global voice and data CPE business.
Netopia CEO Alan Lefkof will remain in charge, reporting directly to Dan Moloney, president of Motorola’s Connected Home Solutions business.
