Motorola to Cut 1,000 Jobs

Motorola Broadband Communications Sector is on the list of Motorola Inc. units that will lose headcount following the company’s announcement that it would cut 1,000 jobs worldwide, AP reported.

Motorola also said it would take a charge of $50 million for severance benefits, according to AP.

Spokeswoman Jennifer Weyrauch told AP the company is completing a spinoff of its chip operations, now operating independently as Freescale Semiconductor Inc., which made some corporate positions unnecessary.

"We're eliminating 1,000 positions around the world to better align our work force to support seamless mobility and in anticipation of the Freescale Semiconductor separation," Weyrauch told AP.
