LAS VEGAS - Motorola Inc.
and PacketVideo Corp.
have teamed to build mobile devices capable of streaming full-motion video and high-quality audio content over wireless connections. Tied to the deal is an undisclosed, "multimillion-dollar" equity investment by Motorola in PacketVideo, a closely held company based in San Diego.
Both companies plan to offer the content via a line of wireless gear, including personal digital assistants, laptop computers and Internet-ready phones. By tapping into PacketVideo's MPEG-4 (Moving Picture Expert Group) encoding/decoding video platform, Motorola said the technology would foster the delivery of news clips, sports highlights, movie trailers and video electronic mail.
