Motorola Broadband Communications Sector
unveiled the "DBM-2000," a node-hosted distributed broadband module that pushes cable modem-termination system functionality closer to residential and business customers. The approach uses a Layer 2 bridge with Ethernet-type baseband data-network transmission between the node and headend, and RF (radio frequency) transport between nodes and the subscriber's cable modem.
Motorola Broadband said the arrangement will ease operator upgrades as they expand requirements for data delivery over Internet protocol.
