Motorola Takes Home an Emmy

Move over Home Box Office, here comes Motorola Inc.

The company said it received an Emmy Award from the National Academy of
Television Arts and Sciences for 'outstanding achievement in the development of
consumer digital set-top boxes.'

NATAS said Thomson Consumer Electronics Co. also won an Emmy in the same
category for its work with direct-broadcast satellite digital set-tops.

This was actually Motorola's seventh Emmy win in its history. It previously
won for the HDTV Grand Alliance, VideoCipher and DigiCipher technologies.

The technical Emmys were handed out in a ceremony Wednesday in New York.

On a more lucrative font, Motorola signed broadband deals with two Spanish
broadband operators: Telecable and ONO.

Telecable is buying cable-modem-termination systems, routers and other
Internet-protocol gear for its 70,000 subscribers. ONO is buying 'DVi 3000'
series set-tops for its 400,000 subscribers.
