MSG Network Series to Rank Top Sports Films

MSG Network’s Emmy Award-winning franchise The Lineup returns next week looking to answer the question: Which is the greatest sport film of all time?

Premiering Monday through Thursday between April 8 and April 18, each 30-minute episode of The Lineup: The Best Sports Movies will present five films in one of eight different categories: baseball, basketball, football, boxing, golf, hockey, horse racing and miscellaneous. (Check out the schedule below.)

Hosted by veteran broadcaster and former New York Yankees catcher Fran Healy, a panel -- comprising Academy Award-nominated director, producer and actor Spike Lee; Emmy Award-winning actor and writer Robert Wuhl; Academy Award-nominated actor Chazz Palminteri; and film critic Jeffrey Lyons --will discuss the merits of each film until they ultimately decide on the best of the group.

“The debate over the best sports movie is almost as old as sports itself,” said Healy. “And New Yorkers show as much passion defending their favorite sports movie as they do defending their favorite team, so this series should get some enthusiastic conversations started.”

Numerous athletes and celebrities will also share their views on the films.  Some of the notables include: New York Knicks Carmelo Anthony, Amar’e Stoudemire, Tyson Chandler, Jason Kidd, Steve Novak and Marcus Camby; New York Rangers captain Ryan Callahan; Broadway Blueshirts legends Mark Messier, Brian Leetch and Mike Richter; New York Yankees Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera; former Mets David Cone and Mookie Wilson; Giants Eli Manning, Victor Cruz and Prince Amukamara; ex-heavyweight  boxer Gerry Cooney; television news personality Keith Olberman; and actors Tracy Morgan, Steve Schirripa; John Leguizamo, Vanessa Hudgens and Billy Baldwin.

The Lineup: Best Sports Movies is the third installment of the franchise. The Lineup: New York’s All-Time Best Baseball Players premiered in spring 2010, while The Lineup: Hits & Errors – The Best and Worst Deals in New York Baseball bowed last spring.
