MSGN Has Ratings Knack With Knicks-Lakers


The New York Knicks wound up on the wrong end of the scorebook at Staples Center Sunday night versus the Los Angeles Lakers, but on the right end of the Nielsen scorecard.
Madison Square Garden Network's Jan. 9 telecast of Knicks-Lakers averaged a 2.87 household rating in the New York DMA. with its telecast that tipped at 9:30 p.m. (ET), according to Nielsen data.
That ranked fourth among MSGN Knicks's games this season behind the orange and blue's Dec. 15 game against the Boston Celtics and a pair of contests against LeBron James and Dwayne Wade's Miami Heat, and continues its hot Nielsen start to the season.
Through 34 telecasts to date, the Knicks have averaged a 1.53 household in the New York DMA, up 43% from a 1.07 mark at the same stage of the 2009-10 campaign.
Among guys 18 to 34, Knicks-Lakers dunked a 6.03 mark against the demo, boosting MSGN's average with that group to a 2.29, 118% higher than a 1.05 last season.
