Madison Square Garden Networks Tuesday named former Olympian and television executive Lydia Murphy-Stephans as its new executive vice president of programming and production.

In the newly created position, Stephans -- a former ABC Sports and Oxygen Media Inc. executive who most recently headed up her own media-consulting company, Peace Tree Inc. -- will be responsible for all of the networks' programming, development, acquisitions, scheduling, remote and studio productions and technical operations and facilities, according to MSGN Networks president Mike Bair.

"Lydia is an extremely accomplished industry veteran with a demonstrated ability to create relevant, successful programming while strategically restructuring a brand," said Bair of Stephans, who was a member of the U.S. National Speed Skating Team from 1976-85.

"Her talent and expertise will be enormously important to us as we move forward with expanding our programming base and content platforms, streamline our operations and continue the tradition of providing the highest-quality broadcasts to our viewers," he added.
