MSGN's Coverage Of Knicks Scoring Higher With Nielsen Fans


The New York Knicks are vastly improved on court and fans in the Big Apple environs are taking notice on MSG Network.
The regional sports network averaged a 2.02 household Nielsen rating in the New York DMA with its coverage of Knicks games in December 2010, according to Nielsen data. That ranked as the highest monthly average for MSGN with the National Basketball Association team -- which was 8-5 last month -- since the 2004-05 season, when Nielsen changed its methodology from meter-diary integration to Local People Meters. The previous high since 2004 was January 2007, when MSGN scored a 1.59 household rating.
The momentum continued into the new year. MSGN's presentation of the Knicks' win over the San Antonio Spurs on Jan. 4 posted a 2.75 household rating in the New York DMA, the fourth-highest-ranked contest on MSGN this season. That helped lift the RSN's season-to-date average to a 1.5 household rating, up 39% from its mark during the 2009-10 campaign.
