MSN Video will simultaneously stream Showtime’s Aug. 14 premiere episode of its comedy Barbershop: The Series.
The half-hour episode of the series, which is based on the Barbershop film franchise, will be available on Microsoft Corp.’s MSN portal (msnvideo.com) for eight straight days after the premiere episode, but Showtime Networks Inc. has no plans to make any future episodes available for streaming.
The deal marks the first time Showtime will stream original programming over to MSN’s video service, which attracts more than 420 million unique users worldwide per month. The network last March aired the March 7 premiere of Fat Actress on Yahoo! (www.yahoo.com).
“This is a wonderful opportunity to introduce our outstanding Showtime programming to a whole new audience,” said Showtime executive vice president Mark Greenberg. “We’re confident that once people get a taste of this terrific new series Barbershop, they’ll want to sign up for Showtime.”
