MSNBC will air a special edition of Hardball Thursday, A Soldier's Journey Home.
The one-hour special will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the physical- and occupational-therapy departments at the Walter Reed Medical Center, focusing on the personal struggles and determination of wounded soldiers as they progress on the road to recovery.
Companies including Procter & Gamble Co.’s Pampers, Microsoft Corp., Target Brands Inc., Toys “R” Us Inc., MSNBC and the NBC Experience Store will also donate holiday gifts to the families and children of the servicemen and women at Walter Reed.
Gens. Norman Schwarzkopf and Barry McCaffrey will be guests on A Soldier's Journey Home.
“Meeting the wounded soldier and learning about his recovery and rehabilitation is an American duty," Matthews said in a prepared statement. “We care about those heroes. We need to show it."
