MTV Eyes Music-Download Service


MTV Networks chairman Tom Freston said Monday that the programmer is readying a music-download service, Reuters reported.

Freston said the as-yet-unnamed service would debut during the first half of 2004, but he gave no further details.

"It will compete with [Apple Computer Inc.’s] iTunes and everyone else," he told Reuters in an interview. ( currently lets users download music tracks, but they expire after a period of time and cannot be burned to CDs or uploaded to portable digital players.
