MTV Flanks 2011 'VMAs' With 'Jersey Shore,' 'Pants Back' Pilot

Publish date:

MTV wants to make sure that the 2011 Video Music Awards telecast is put in a good ratings situation.
The network will air its top series Jersey Shore at 7 p.m., providing a lead-in to its 8 p.m. VMA pre-show, hosted by Selena Gomez interviewing musicians and celebrities as they walk the red carpet outside the Nokia Theater at L.A. Live. The 2010 VMAs, hosted by Chelsea Handler, averaged 11.4 million viewers, improving 27% on the prior year's moon man fest and its best perfomance since 2002.
This year's hostless VMAs should provide a large lead-in of its own for the pilot of comedy I Just Want My Pants Back. The show based on the book by David Rosen, centers on Jason Strider (Peter Vack), who wants to be a music journalist, but lacks the know-how. The series is expected to debut in January.
Sunday's Jersey Shore episode, entitled "And the Wall Won," follows pivotal moments with the cast members as things come to a head between Mike Sorrentino and Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, and The Situation's hospitalization is explained. This Sunday's Jersey Shore will encore in its normal Thursday time slot on Sept. 1 at 10 p.m.
