MTV is going to help video gamers meet The Beatles.
Through an exclusive partnership between Apple Corps Ltd., MTV Games and video game publisher Harmonix, which is owned by MTV and created the popular Rock Band, will produce a Beatles music game.
Although a specific release date was not announced, the game, which has received creative input from Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison, is expected to be available for the 2009 holiday season.
The partnership not only marks the first time that Apple Corps, along with EMI Music, Harrisongs Ltd, and Sony/ATV Music Publishing, has agreed to present The Beatles music in an interactive video game format, but that the group’s music is accessible outside of traditional delivery formats --- the group has yet to license its music for digital download.
“Introducing the genius of The Beatles to a whole new generation of music lovers through original and inspired ways is extremely exciting to us at Apple Corps,” said Apple Corps CEO Jeff Jones in a statement. “We are truly pleased to be working with the innovative forces at MTV and Harmonix as they embody our mutual passions for music and creativity.”
Added MTV Networks chairman and CEO: “The impact of The Beatles is forever ingrained in the hearts, minds and souls of millions the world over. The Beatles are the reason many of us are where we are, and some of us are who we are."
