MTV to Go Live with 20th Birthday

MTV: Music Television will celebrate its 20th birthday with a live
party.

MTV and sibling MTV2 will simulcast the event Aug. 1, hosted by Carson Daly
and other network talent from Manhattan's Hammerstein Ballroom, the networks
said. Starting at 8 p.m., the three-hour show will feature live performances
that span MTV's 20-year history and offer up exclusive artist interviews.

The show -- the first program to be simulcast by MTV and MTV2 -- will also
showcase appearances from various VJs throughout the span, including the
channel's five original VJs: Martha Quinn, J.J. Jackson, Alan Hunter, Nina
Blackwood and Mark Goodman.

The birthday bash will be preceded by a 12-hour block of music videos, promos
and intros commemorating the network's first 20 years.

'This party is as much about celebrating the future of MTV as it is about our
history,' MTV Group president Judith McGrath said in a prepared statement. 'For
20 years, we have focused on constant evolution and reinvention, and we're not
about to slow down in the next 20.'
