MTV Readies Spankin’ New Music Week

Boasting that it has a knack for picking the hot songs of the summer, MTV Networks plans to plug several new videos next week under a Spankin’ New Music Week: Summer Soundtrack mantra.

MTV said it will debut Summer Soundtrack on Total Request Live next Tuesday-Friday. Scheduled performers on TRL include Maroon 5, Ne-Yo, Daddy Yankee, T- Pain and Daughtry. There will also be guest appearances by Gym Class Heroes, T.I., Dane Cook, Mario, Sum 41, Fabolous and Seth Rogen, the network said.

“This week of special programming and predictions will introduce music fans to what could be the next great anthem of the summer,” MTV said in Thursday’s announcement.

The network added that it has predicted previous summer hits such as Shakira’s “Hips Don’t Lie,” Beyonce’s “Crazy In Love” and “Promiscuous” from Nelly Furtado.

MTV.com will feature the live performances from TRL, MTV said.

And May 31, Green Day plans to premiere its new video, “Working Class Hero,” on MTV, MTV2 and mtvU.
