MTV’s (Latest) 'Spankin’ New’ Music Effort

New York— A reunited Destiny’s Child, Chingy, Simple Plan, Gwen Stefani, Fabolous and Lil’ John and the East Side Boyz are among the acts slated to perform on Total Request Live from Nov. 8-12 as part of MTV: Music Television’s fourth annual “Spankin’ New Music Week.”

Hosted by VJs Quddus Phillippe, Damien Fahey, Vanessa Minnillo, La La Vasquez and Hilarie Burton, TRL that week will also feature a host of video premieres and appearances from the likes of Ashanti, Ja Rule, Blink 182, Tom Hanks, Salma Hayek, Omarion and Ryan Cabrera in the show’s 5 to 6 p.m. time slot. During the last edition of “Spankin’ ” — from May 31 through June 4 — TRL reached 10.2 million, a “slightly higher” total than a typical week, according to MTV officials.

The celebration of live music, which also extends to MTV2, mtv.com and college service mtvU, will also feature the youth network’s presentation of Diary: Omarion, a behind-the-scenes look at the former B2K member as he preps for his first solo album and tour on Nov. 8 at 6 p.m.; MTV Ultimate Mash-ups: Jay-Z vs. Linkin Park, shot as a pilot for the net’s recently greenlighted series (this show, airing on Nov. 10 at 10:30 p.m. will showcase the rapper and the band bringing their songs together in front of a live audience); and a Christina Aguilera concert taped from the Wembley Arena stop on her recent tour on Nov. 11 at 6 p.m.

For its part, MTV2 is sounding “Spankin’ ” throughout November with DVD specials on such artists as Evancescence, Yellowcard, White Stripes and Nirvana. It will also present Making the Video specials on Akon, New Found Glory and Lil Jon.

In addition MTV2 premieres The Used Live Show, a 30-minute concert special taped in October, and U2 Makes an Album.
