Apparently looking to ride the coattails of Fox’s hit The O.C., MTV: Music Television is creating what it’s billing as a “reality drama” series set in real-life Orange County, Calif.
MTV will debut Laguna Beach -- The Real Orange County, a series that almost seems like a cross between The Real World and The O.C.,this fall, officials said Monday.
MTV claimed that the reality program, about seven teen-agers in Southern California, will have the look and feel of a scripted drama without the conventions of typical reality television.
MTV will have access to the group’s lives, from spring break to the prom to graduation, with the dialog, reactions and situations real and unscripted.
“Our goal is to show the lives of this incredible group of teen-agers -- authentic and unscripted, yet shot to look like our viewers’ favorite dramatic series,” MTV senior vice president of production Tony DiSanto said in a prepared statement.
