MTV: Music Television announced Monday that it will produce a concert special
for U.S. servicemen and women on New Year's Day.
The 90-minute show, in partnership with United Service Organizations and
Armed Forces Entertainment, will include performances from Jennifer Lopez, Kid
Rock and Ja Rule.
Total Request Live host Carson Daly will oversee For the Troops: An
MTV/USO Special, which will emanate from an undisclosed military base
overseas, also including behind-the-scenes reports and stories. The show
premieres at 2 p.m. Jan. 1.
MTV cameras, according to the Viacom Inc.-owned network, will follow the
performers from the moment they arrive at the base and interact with the troops
as they go through their routines.
MTV News' Gideon Yago will also be on hand to interview the men and women
stationed there about how their lives have changed over the past few months.
'The MTV audience mirrors the age of the young men and women abroad, which is
why we reached out to the USO about this idea back in September,' MTV Group
president Judith McGrath said in a prepared statement.
'Working together, we'll bring the top American talent overseas for what we
are confident will be a memorable holiday show,' she added.
