In light of the one-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, MTV:
Music Television will hold its 2002 MTV Video Music Awards Aug. 29, one week
earlier than past years.
The awards show will be held at Radio City Music Hall in New York.
'Our plan is to throw the last big bash of the summer with the Video Music
Awards occurring right here in our own backyard,' MTV and MTV2 president Van
Toffler said in a prepared statement.
'By bringing together artists, fans and the city's creative community for
MTV's biggest night of the year, we hope to show our love and support for the
place we truly call home every day,' he added.
Last year's awards show garnered an 8.6 rating, the second-most-watched MTV
Video Music Awards show ever, network officials said.
