MTV Networks announced an agreement to supply music and video content to Amp’d Mobile Inc. for its upcoming mobile-phone service.
The programmer also made an undisclosed investment in Amp’d, and MTVN senior vice president Jason Hirschhorn will get a seat on Amp’d’s board of directors.
Amp’d said it will market video clips, ring tones, screen savers and wallpapers from networks owned by MTVN, including Comedy Central, MTV: Music Television and Spike TV.
But MTVN doesn’t yet plan to produce its own “mPods,” to compete with Apple Computer Inc. “iPods.”
“We don’t have any plans to do that now, but we will be working with a bunch of hardware manufacturers to make sure that their service works and their product works seamlessly with our service,” Hirschhorn said.
