MTVN Runs Content on Sprint TV Service

MTV Networks is racing into wireless-content distribution, striking a deal with Sprint Nextel Corp. to offer top music, comedy and entertainment programs to its “Sprint TV” service.

Country Music Television, Comedy Central, MTV: Music Television and VH1 are now available for $5.95 per month, per channel -- plus data charges -- on the Sprint TV service.

In addition to providing clips from programs such as CMT Insider, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Laguna Beach and Best Week Ever, MTVN will for the first time provide live streams of the CMT, MTV and VH1 radio stations to wireless handsets.

The Sprint TV service offers live and on-demand TV content streamed to mobile phones using its next-generation broadband Evolution-Data Optimized network. EV-DO can support downstream bandwidth ranging from 400 kilobits per second to 700 kbps.

“No matter where they are, Sprint customers can now stay connected to the short-form programming they love on CMT, Comedy Central, MTV and VH1 and remain plugged into the latest trends in music, fashion, movies, comedy and more," MTVN vice president of wireless strategy and operations Greg Clayman said in a prepared statement.
