MTV's controversial Jersey Shore keeps knocking with the Nielsens.
The reality series, which has garnered headlines for its unflattering portrayal of young adult Italian-Americans and a promo clip (since deleted from the episode) of one of its female characters taking a punch to the face, scored a series high 2.4 rating against persons 12 to 34 with the Dec. 17 premiere of its third installment, according to Nielsen live + same-day data. That mark was 85% above the show's debut and 20% higher than the prior week's episode. Meanwhile. its women 12-to-34 grade grew 13%, over week twi in claiming cable time-slot laurels for a third consecutive span..
All told, the Dec. 17 telecast of Jersey Shore averaged 2.5 million watchers.
The show's 11 p.m. encore notched a 1.2 rating against the 12-to-34 set and 1.3 million watchers, according to MTV officials.
