Multichannel News Names Tech Editor

Todd Spangler will join Multichannel News Monday as technology editor, succeeding Karen Brown.

“Todd is an outstanding journalist who is technically smart and very savvy about seeing what the impacts of the tools businesses use are on both the companies and customers who use them,” MCN editor in chief Tom Steinert-Threlkeld said.

“His own impact will be seen immediately on how Multichannel approaches coverage of both analog and digital technologies” for delivering video and communication services on cable, on fiber, by satellite and via the Internet, he added.

Spangler comes to MCN from Baseline, where he most recently was news editor.

For about two years, he was editor of the magazine’s Community section, where his work won Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Awards in back-to-back years. That section looked at technology suppliers and sought direct feedback from experts about the technology who mattered: Executives at the companies that purchased hardware and software.

Spangler also worked as a senior editor at Interactive Week, another Ziff Davis Media magazine. Steinert-Threlkeld is former editor in chief of both Baseline and Interactive Week.

A graduate of the Medill School of Journalism at NorthwesternUniversity in Evanston, Ill., Spangler has been an editor at Ziff Davis’ PC Magazine, Mecklermedia’s Internet World and ByteandSwitch.com (www.byteandswitch.com), all in New York.

Brown, who served twice as a technology reporter and editor at MCN, accepted a position as director of communications-industry intelligence for Denver-based One Touch Intelligence. Her last day as technology editor was Sept. 29.
