Mun2 Readies First Telenovela With English Subtitles

Mun2, the Telemundo-owned youth-oriented cable network, on Jan. 26 will premiere telenovela Sin Senos No Hay Paraíso with English-language subtitles, making this its first “crossover” program after a successful run in the Telemundo Network.

Sin Senos, which tells the story of women who undergo breast-enhancement surgery to attract rich drug lords, will run Monday through Thursday at 10 pm on mun2. But unlike its run on the Spanish-language sister network, the mun2 broadcast will be presented in four segments hosted by Pico, host of The Shuffle, who will invite readers to participate by logging onto the Web site and send their comments about the drama.

“We really succeed when we listen to our audience,” says Flavio Morales, mun2 vice president of programming. “The idea is to give [the show] an irreverent perspective and allow viewers sending their comments via holamun2.com.”Currently, the holamun2.com Web page is running a series of short-form promos inviting visitors to watch the telenovela, which already scored high ratings among the older, Spanish dominant crowd.

The debut of Sin Senos is part of a broader mun2 strategy focused on its prime time line up. Such strategy, dubbed “7th Street Leads you to mun2” because it kicks off at 7 p.m., aims at increasing the total hours of original and acquired programming in the 7-to-11 p.m. time slot.
