News Corp. chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch is expected to testify May 8
before the House Judiciary Committee on his plans to buy DirecTV Inc. parent
Hughes Electronics Corp., a House source said Thursday.
The committee released a hearing schedule for next week but did not include a
witness list for its hearing on "Direct Broadcast Satellite Service in the
Multichannel Video Distribution Market."
However, a House source said Murdoch would appear as a witness.
Murdoch, however, is not expected to show up before the Senate Commerce
Committee May 6.
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who invited Murdoch to testify, is planning to
review the News Corp.-DirecTV merger, as well as pricing and packaging issues in
the cable and DBS industries.
