Myers Predicts 20% Cable Upfront Gain

Cable networks are expected to generate $6.4 billion in upfront-advertising sales this year, up 20% from 2003, according to a report from analyst Jack Myers.

Myers -- who said he based his report on interviews with 300 advertising executives -- predicted that broadcast-TV sales will drop 2.2% during the upfront to $9 billion. Syndication sales are expected to grow 13% to $2.6 billion, he added.

Broadcast’s average cost per thousand will jump 7%, while cable CPMs will rise 9% and syndication CPMs will gain 12%, Myers said.
