NAMIC Monday announced that Essence magazine editor emerita Susan L. Taylor will deliver the keynote address at
the organization's L. Patrick Mellon Mentorship Program Luncheon during next month's 25th annual NAMIC Conference.
Taylor -- who served as editor for the African-American female-targeted magazine for nearly three decades -- will speak Oct. 4 during the luncheon, which is presented by NAMIC in partnership with Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT) and sponsored by the Walter Kaitz Foundation, according to NAMIC officials.
The goal of the L. Patrick Mellon Mentorship Program is to facilitate diversity in the communications industry by making mentors available to NAMIC members to provide assistance with their career advancement strategies, said the diversity-based organization.
"Susan L. Taylor is one of the communications industry's foremost influencers," said Kathy Johnson, president of NAMIC in a statement. "Ms. Taylor is also a dedicated advocate of mentoring, and we are honored to have her join us for this year's event."
