As part of the National Basketball Association's All-Star Weekend (Feb.7
through 9 in Atlanta), the league announced Wednesday that an unprecedented 12
networks are slated to carry the NBA All-Star Read to Achieve Celebration
special Saturday, Feb. 8, at noon.
The one-dozen networks are ABC, Turner Network Television, Nickelodeon, Nick
Games and Sports, Black Entertainment Television, Disney Channel, Telemundo, NBA
TV, AOL Broadband, RealNetworks Inc.'s "RealOne SuperPass," NBA.com's Inside
Ticket and MuchMusic Canada.
The special -- with stars including Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera,
B2K and LL Cool J -- will be hosted by Ahmad Rashad and Summer Sanders.
The NBA, the Women's NBA and the National Basketball Development League have
been working on "Read to Achieve," a year-round literacy initiative, since May
"Thousands" of students from the Atlanta area will attend the celebration as
a reward for participating in the project, the league said.
