The National Basketball Association will jump on the reality-programming
bandwagon later this year with a new series, Who Wants to Be an NBA/WNBA
Player?
.

The series, produced in association with Universal Television Group-owned
production company Reveille, will follow the lives of athletes from around the
world vying for a chance to play on an NBA or Women's NBA team, league
executives said.

The chosen finalists will go through a number of tests ranging from strength
and conditioning to skills, two-on-two and three-on-three games and H.O.R.S.E.
One male and one female winner will be chosen to try out with an NBA team and a
WNBA team, respectively.

The NBA and Reveille are currently shopping the project to various broadcast
and cable networks, but they would not reveal specifics.

Both Turner Network Television and ESPN hold cable rights to NBA games, but a
Turner spokeswoman said the league has not pitched the project to the
network.

Officials from the NBA and ESPN could not be reached for comment at press
time.
