The National Basketball Association’s Memphis Grizzlies are eyeing their own regional sports network, which would tip off in October 2004.
The yet-to-be-named channel also plans to televise minor-league baseball, motorsports, college athletics and a regional sports newscast.
LHB Media Inc. principal Lee Berke, who is helping the club with programming and distribution, said the network has had preliminary discussions with operators serving subscribers in the Tennessee, eastern Arkansas and northern Mississippi footprint it would reach.
Berke said the network plans to air between 60-70 Grizzlies games next season. A total of 25 of the team’s games this season are slated to air on Fox Sports South in the final year of a three-year pact.
Fox Sports South executives declined to comment.
