NBA TV will take a shot at the news-magazine category with the Dec. 16 debut of True NBA, the league announced Monday.

The one-hour show, hosted by CNN on-air personality John King, will feature four exclusive stories that go beyond traditional sports reporting to look at league players and memorable events that have impacted the NBA.

Stories featured in the inaugural show include a focus on the 50th anniversary of the Minneapolis Lakers' near-deadly plane crash in Iowa; the legacy of late NBA center Manute Bol; former NBA center Chris Dudley's run for Governor of Oregon; and an profile of Los Angeles Clippers rookie Blake Griffin.

NBA TV officials said True NBA will run periodically, with the next telecast tentatively scheduled to air around the league's All-Star break in February.
