With the opening ceremony for the London Games just over three months away, the NBC Sports Group has set the most robust schedule ever of U.S. Olympic Trials coverage.
Together, NBC and NBC Sports Network will combine on a record 67.5 hours of event coverage -- 47 of it live -- covering 10 sports, including live primetime presentations of the trials for diving, swimming, gymnastics and track & field, as well as water polo and field hockey.
NBC Sports Network, which will present more coverage of the Olympics than any cable channel ever has with as much as 300 hours on tap from London, will showcase 43 hours of trials action, while NBC will air 24.5.
The 67.5 hours of coverage on NBC and NBC Sports Network easily tops the 49 hours of trials coverage leading into the Beijing Games in 2008 and 40.5 hours ahead of Athens in 2004. Additionally, NBC Sports Network (74) and Universal Sports (43) will encore a combined 117 hours of trials coverage. Universal Sports is a joint venture of Leo Hindery's InterMedia Partners and NBC Sports Group.
Trials coverage starts April 22 on NBC Sports Network with wrestling competition from Iowa City, Iowa, and concludes on July 8, with the U.S women's water polo Olympic team taking on the Chinese Olympic team.
Among the highlights: all of the swimming live in primetime on NBC, as part of the Peacock's 15.5 hours overall in the daypart. On July 1, NBC will air four hours of live primetime track & field, swimming and gymnastics coverage.

"We are thrilled to present a record number of hours of Olympic Trials on NBC and NBC Sports Network - which will serve as the home of Team USA during the London Games" said Gary Zenkel, president, NBC Olympics in announcing the trials schedule. "Our extensive coverage gives fans a head start to follow the U.S. Olympians as they prepare for London 2012."
"Over the next 100 days, America's best athletes will compete for a place on the U.S. Olympic Team, providing fans of Olympic sport with inspiring performances and stories ahead of the London Games," noted Scott Blackmun, United States Olympic Committee CEO. "NBC is a great partner to the Olympic movement and NBC Sports Group's commitment to broadcasting the U.S. Olympic Team Trials will help build interest in the London 2012 Olympic Games while introducing Americans to the athletes who will represent the United States as members of the U.S. Olympic team this summer."
