The lockout-induced absence apparently made NHL fans’ hearts fonder: NBC scored a bevy of ratings marks with its regional coverage to face off the 2013 season.
NBC netted a 2.0 overnight rating on Jan. 19 from 3:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. (ET), the highest in more than a decade (excluding Winter Classics), according to Nielsen data.
The Peacock – which aired regional action featuring the Chicago Blackhawks’ 5-2 win over the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings and the Pittsburg Penguins’ 3-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers – notched its best regular-season mark since it began covering the pro puck league in 2006.
The performance was 67% above last year’s regular season average, and 82% above NBC’s coverage on the comparable weekend in 2012.
Pittsburgh (19.4 rating/38 share), Philadelphia (7.8/16 share) and Chicago (6.6/15) all posted record local ratings.
