Hitting two major streaming platforms at once, NBC Sports Digital said its authenticated NBC Sports Live Extra app is now supported on Roku players/Roku TVs, and Apple TV devices.

The TV Everywhere app (the version for Roku is pictured), also offered on iOS and Android mobile devices and Web browsers, delivers about 3,000 live streaming events per year, including the Stanley Cup Playoffs and the upcoming Triple Crown. The app also features live sports televised by NBC, including Sunday Night Football, NBCSN, and Golf Channel.

The “vast majority” of live streaming via the app is available only through MVPDs with TV Everywhere rights, NBC Sports Digital noted.

“We are constantly striving to provide our content to consumers on the newest platforms, which now includes connected TVs,” said Rick Cordella, SVP & GM, Digital Media, NBC Sports Group, said, in a statement.

“NBC Sports is unwavering in their commitment to offer loyal fans the live sporting events they love in ways that work best for them,” added Alison Moore, GM and EVP, TV Everywhere, NBCUniversal. “As we have seen with the success of the NFL and the Olympic Games, real-time sports programming with a cross-device reach is a crown jewel in NBCUniversal's ever-expanding TV Everywhere initiative.”

NBCUniversal-owned TV stations (WNBC New York, KNBC Los Angeles, WMAQ Chicago, and WCAU Philadelphia)  launched a live viewing app (which also provides access to a VOD library) in February.
