NCAA Tourney is Most-Viewed through Saturday in 20 Years

As brackets continued to break asunder, CBS Sports and Turner Sports continued to score at a record Nielsen pace with the 2013 version of March Madness.

Through their coverage on Saturday, TBS, CBS, TNT and TruTV averaged 8.2 million total viewers, according to Nielsen data, making the 2013 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship the most-watched tournament since CBS scored 8.4 million in 1993.

With Gonzaga, the top seed in the West  shocked by Wichita State, the Madness continued apace on March 23 as the 2013 tourney’s 5.4 household rating  and 12 share was tied with 1998 as the highest rating for the tournament to date in 16 years (5.7/14 in 1997).

The networks’ combined coverage of the tournament through March 23 was up 2% vs. last year’s comparable 5.3/12 and 8 million viewers at the same stage of the 2012 event.
