Cable operators registered double-digit gains in terms of cable-modem and digital-cable growth through the first nine months of the year.
According to the National Cable & Telecommunications Association, cable operators counted an estimated 15 million customers with high-speed Internet access as of Sept. 30. That was up 29% from 11.6 million cable-modem subscribers at the end of 2002.
On the digital-cable front, the number of subscribers increased 12% to 21 million at the end of September from a base of 19.2 million at the close of last year.
As for voice-over-Internet-protocol services, cable-phone subscriptions remained at just under 2.5 million customers in the third quarter of 2003.
