NDS Group plc, the News Corp. subsidiary that supplies secure pay TV
technology for cable and direct-broadcast satellite operators, is joining
Scientific-Atlanta Inc.'s "itaas istart" application-developer program.
S-A’s itaas said it will supply support services to NDS to develop
interactive applications for S-A's "Explorer" set-top series. The istart program
provides tools and support for interoperability of developer applications with
the "PowerTV" operating system and other resident applications on S-A boxes.
"Working with itaas will help us to implement our advanced interactive
applications, including interactive gaming applications, video-on-demand and
personal-video-recorder capabilities," said Dov Rubin, vice president and
general manager of NDS Americas, in a prepared statement.
In other news, S-A said Bermuda CableVision was deploying its two-way
interactive-TV system, giving customers an interactive programming guide and
VOD, along with other interactive applications.
